Open Letter written by Hugh in his 80's

Dear Citizens,

First of all I would thank all who replied to my recent letter, even those few who did so negatively. It was helpful even to learn from the latter how little they had grasped of our character and achievements as the Servant-Nation of Mankind. There were some understandable excuses on grounds of health and old age. I would say here, in my mid-Eighties, "You still have life, so you still have something to give to avert planetary  disaster."

But let me come to those whose response was eager and positive. The WAY FORWARD has now bean made clear to get back into action. This I
enclose for your earnest consideration and acceptance. It is not, of course, the full measure of our structure as a nation, which rests on the provisional Constitution our people adopted unanimously in 1956; but it will enable us to get back on course towards its implementation We are engaged in a unique adventure, and have to be ready to adjust to what it calls for. We may be attracted by more familiar and less demanding roads and methods; and these have much to commend them. We can learn from the dedication and sacrifices of those who espouse these causes, political and humanitarian, and yet grasp that to be an active citizen of a novel world-distributed nation whose function is Service, Mediation and Example makes a priority demand on our allegiance at the present stage of world history.

We have to learn how to operate in our novel position as a pioneer people adventuring ahead in the direction of a peaceful united world. We have to have a new perspective; but much more we have to be new persons with a planetary concern, and a dedication that overcomes all distinctions of race, colour and creed. We have to be strictly impartial, and be ready to study, strain and sweat, to make our status and proposals acceptable.

I am able to tell you that our initiative will very soon be coming into the News. So there can be an influx of new citizens. We have to be ready to welcome and instruct them, and put their enthusiasm and idealism to work.

Are you with me in the WAY FORWARD as one whose loyalty to our vision and corporate mission we can count on until death? If there is any aspect of our undertaking about which you are not clear please let me know.

Yours in MONDCIVITAN SERVICE,
Hugh J. Schonfield
